It’s kinda cool, when you grow up like I did, to reconnect with friends you haven’t seen in over twenty years. That’s happened to me twice in the last two weeks and it’s a testament for all that’s sort of cool about things like Facebook.
You know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows where that old buddy of yours is, the guy who yelled out, "Aussies Rule," at your high school graduation, the girl who reminded you the Wells Fargo Wagon was a’comin’ with somthin’ thpecial jutht for meee.
It’s six degrees of separation come to life in the most beautiful of ways.
So here’s what I’ve been wondering. Six degrees of Kevin Bacon (SDOKB). You all know the ‘game,’ how you can connect any movie ever made to Kevin Bacon in six steps or less. For those of you uneducated in, SDOKB, here’s an example:
Let’s take Cecil B. Demille’s 1919 version of The Ten Commandments. Cecil was in Sunset Boulevard with William Holden, who was in Network with Faye Dunaway, who was in Chinatown with Jack Nicholson, who was in A Few Good Men with…Kevin Bacon.
Now, I’m thinking, as you probably are too, with all this face book reconnection and SDOKB, how can Oldbitey trace herself to Kevin Bacon in six people or less?
And of course, if I can, if it all becomes possible and I actually ‘friend’ Kevin Bacon on Facebook, and he ‘friends’ me, just what sort of novel can I get out of it?
Because you know your lives are simply fodder for my novels, so I’m thinking a romantic comedy for the noughties…
